RELL SEAS WIKI

Sea Events

Last updated: March 21, 2026

Overview

Sea Events are dynamic, open-ocean encounters that trigger as players sail the seas of RELL Seas. From escorting cargo ships under attack to hunting legendary sea beasts, these events transform open-sea sailing from a travel mechanic into a gameplay loop of its own. With 7 confirmed sea event types - plus an entire layer of underwater events - the ocean is never empty.

🌊How Sea Events Work

Ship Relevance

Sea events are where your ship build truly matters. A ramming-focused Gallion plays very differently from a fast Sloop in a sea beast hunt. Cannon upgrades, ship speed, and crew composition all directly affect your effectiveness in ocean events.

→ Ship Customisation

Coordination

Many sea events are designed for multiple players and crews. A legendary ship event, for example, is not a solo encounter - bringing your crew and coordinating cannon fire is the intended approach.

Sea Events spawn across the open ocean and trigger when players sail into their proximity. Like land events, they randomize by area and are influenced by the Adventure Dex quality-of-life ratings. Some events involve NPC ships that players can engage or protect; others spawn sea creatures that all nearby players can fight together.

⛵Sea Events (7)

Cargo Ship ProtectionCommon

An NPC cargo ship is under attack by a pirate faction. Your job is to escort and defend it until it reaches safety. Enemy pirate ships will assault the cargo vessel with cannon fire - you must intercept them, return fire, and keep the cargo ship afloat. The longer the cargo ship survives, the greater your reward.

Rewards

XP, money, cargo items (materials and goods from the protected ship), possible blueprint drops

Ship Requirements

Any ship type can participate. A faster ship (Sloop or upgraded Caravel) allows better positioning around the cargo vessel.

💡This event teaches the fundamentals of the ship damage multiplier system - hitting yellow → orange → red spots on enemy ships dramatically increases your damage output.
Cruise Ship WarsCommon

Two large faction ships have engaged each other in open sea combat. You choose a side, board their cause, and bring your cannons to the battle. This is a full naval engagement - both ships take sustained damage and the battle escalates with each passing minute. Choose wisely: the faction whose ship survives earns your reputation.

Rewards

XP, faction reputation (winning side), money, rare loot from defeated enemy ship, possible crew blueprints

Ship Requirements

A well-armed ship is strongly recommended. Burst cannons excel at sustained DPS during extended naval engagements.

→ Ship builds
💡Staying neutral in Cruise Ship Wars is possible but yields minimal rewards. The event ends when one ship is destroyed.
Ghost Ship EventUncommon

A ghost ship materializes from the ocean fog - a spectral vessel crewed by undead pirates. It sails erratically and attacks any player ship that comes near. The ghost ship is harder to destroy than regular faction ships, but its loot is unlike anything a living crew drops. Rare blueprints, unusual materials, and cursed items await those who sink it.

Rewards

Rare blueprints, unique cursed items, high XP, money

Ship Requirements

Medium-tier cannon power recommended. The ghost ship takes reduced damage from standard shots - weapon enchantments may be more effective.

→ Ship builds
💡Ghost ship events are one of the most anticipated event types from the RELL Seas community. The One Piece connection (ghost ships, cursed loot) makes this event lore-rich.
Marine Warships EventUncommon

A Marine warship patrol appears on the open sea, commanding authority over nearby waters. Marine warships are massive - significantly larger than player ships - and carry Admiral-tier NPC enemies. If you have a high bounty, they will engage you on sight. If you have Marine faction standing, you may be able to sail alongside them without conflict. Each Marine warship patrol spawns a different NPC Admiral with unique attack patterns.

Rewards

For Pirates: defeating the Marine warship yields extremely high XP, money, and rare Marine-exclusive loot. For Marines: escorting the warship earns Marine reputation and rank progression.

Ship Requirements

Attacking a Marine warship requires a Gallion or heavily upgraded Caravel. These are not beginner encounters.

→ Ship builds
💡Different Admirals spawn in different Marine warship events - learning their attack patterns is key to defeating them. This is RELL Seas' version of the One Piece admiral encounters.
Legendary Ship EventRare

A legendary pirate ship of immense size and firepower appears in the open sea. This is a raid-boss equivalent for naval combat - a single crew is unlikely to sink it. Multiple player ships must coordinate cannon fire while avoiding devastating return volleys. The legendary ship has enhanced health, multiple cannon banks, and a special boss ability it uses at low health.

Rewards

Some of the best blueprint drops in the game, legendary-tier materials, massive XP, unique figurehead blueprints

Ship Requirements

Multiple coordinated ships strongly recommended. The legendary ship is designed as a multi-crew challenge.

→ Ship builds
💡Legendary ship events are the naval equivalent of world boss encounters. Their spawn is rare and the window to engage them is limited - coordinate quickly when one appears.
Sea Beast Hunt EventUncommon

A sea beast - one of RELL Seas' giant ocean creatures - has surfaced in the open sea and is actively attacking ships in the area. This is a cooperative event where all nearby players contribute cannon fire and player-combat to bring the creature down. Sea beasts are large enough that individual attacks feel meaningful but sustained crew fire is required to kill them.

Rewards

Sea beast materials (rare crafting resources), blueprints, high XP, money. Sea beasts are confirmed blueprint sources in the developer showcases.

Ship Requirements

Any ship can participate in the cannon phase. The sea beast also surfaces for direct player combat - melee and ability users can board the creature or fight from the water.

→ Ship builds
💡Sea Kings (a type of sea beast) are specifically confirmed as blueprint sources in Movie 1. Hunting them is one of the best ways to discover rare blueprints for ship parts and advanced gear.
Sea Beast Battle EventRare

Two sea beasts are locked in combat - a massive confrontation happening in the open ocean. Players are caught in the middle, with collateral damage from both creatures threatening their ships. You can attempt to fight one or both sea beasts while they are distracted by each other, potentially dealing bonus damage to wounded creatures. This is the most chaotic and visually spectacular sea event in the game.

Rewards

Double sea beast loot if both creatures are killed. Extremely high XP. Rare materials only available from this event type.

Ship Requirements

A fast ship is recommended for survival - you need to dodge creature attacks while engaging. Ramming builds are not recommended here.

→ Ship builds
💡Sea beast battle events transform a large area of ocean into a danger zone. The tsunami zone mechanic activates around sea beast spawn points - your ship takes passive damage if you remain stationary.

🤿Underwater Events

Work in progress - confirmed for deeper sea regions (C4+)

Beneath the surface, a third layer of events exists - underwater encounters accessible only via submarines or with proper diving equipment. Underwater events are still in active development at the time of the Movie 2 showcase, but confirmed content includes hidden cave discoveries, deep-sea dungeon encounters with mini-bosses and full bosses, and current-based exploration puzzles. These events are primarily tied to the later sea regions (C4 and deeper).

⚓Submarine or submarine armor required for deep exploration. See the Submarines system for pressure mechanics and depth details. View Submarines →

Notes

  • â–¸All 7 sea events were confirmed in the Movie 2 RELL Seas developer showcase.
  • â–¸Sea Kings are specifically confirmed as blueprint and rare material sources - hunting them should be a priority for crafting-focused players.
  • â–¸The tsunami zone mechanic activates around sea beast and sea king spawn locations - ship HP drains over time in these zones.
  • â–¸Sea events are designed to be social - multiple crews encountering a legendary ship event simultaneously is intended gameplay.
  • â–¸Underwater events are a separate system, primarily tied to submarine exploration in later sea regions.
