RELL SEAS WIKI

[ Ship Customisation ]

[UPDATED - 2026-03-21]

Ships in RELL Seas are not just transport - they are your home, your weapon, and your identity. Every ship can be built around a playstyle: a defensively armored iron-clad fortress, a lightning-fast Sloop with burst cannons, or a ramming Gallion built to smash through enemy hulls. Customization covers everything from hull material and cannon type to figureheads, crew, and living quarters. No two ships need to look or perform the same.

Ship types

:SLOOP:Small

The smallest and fastest ship type. The Sloop excels at rapid repositioning, making it the preferred choice for players who want to outmaneuver enemies rather than overpower them. Its limited cannon count is offset by its speed advantage in sea events and PvP.

:CANNONS:Low
:PLAYSTYLE:Speed / Evasion
:CARAVEL:Medium

The balanced mid-tier ship. The Caravel offers a solid mix of cannon ports, speed, and durability. It is the most versatile ship type and a strong default choice for players who participate in both sea events and PvP combat.

:CANNONS:Medium
:PLAYSTYLE:Balanced
:GALLION:Large

The largest player-accessible ship. The Gallion approaches the size of NPC Marine warships and can be configured as a devastating cannon platform or a RAM-focused assault vessel. It sacrifices speed for raw combat power and can carry more crew members.

Battle ModeR

Battle Mode switches the ship from exploration sailing to active combat mode. Field of view expands and three dedicated ship abilities become available.

[Mortar Cannons]

Fires in an arc trajectory, reaching targets at long distance that direct-fire cannons cannot hit. Slower and harder to aim, but bypasses obstacles and works at extreme range.

Long range / Arc fire
[Chain Shot]

A specialized cannon load that fires chained projectiles designed to slow or immobilize enemy ships rather than deal direct hull damage. Used to control enemy movement and set up sustained cannon fire.

Crowd control / Speed reduction
[RAM]

Drive the ship's bow directly into an enemy vessel to deal collision damage. Ram Strength stat determines how much damage is dealt on impact. Most effective on Gallions with a Ram bow attachment.

Melee / Collision damage

Cannons & damage multipliers

Cannon aiming is inspired by Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. You aim upward to fire across distance, timing the shot for the target's position. Left, right, back, and front cannons are all independent - you use the appropriate side depending on your ship's orientation relative to the target.

Heavy CannonSlow / High Damage

High-damage, slow rate of fire. Best for delivering devastating blows to weakened ship sections. Excels when targeting the same spot repeatedly to build damage multipliers.

Burst CannonFast / Sustained DPS

Rapid-fire machine gun cannon. Lower damage per shot but extremely high sustained DPS. Excellent for maintaining consistent pressure and quickly escalating ship damage multipliers from yellow to red.

Mortar CannonLong Range / Arc

Arc-trajectory cannon that fires over obstacles and at extreme range. Slower and harder to aim than side cannons, but capable of hitting targets that cannot return fire.

TierColorMult.
Initial HitYellow1x damage
Sustained FireOrange2x damage
Weak PointRed3x damage
Repeated hits to the same spot on an enemy ship create escalating damage multipliers. Each spot starts neutral and progresses through three tiers as it takes sustained damage.

[CREW FIRING] · Equipping NPC crew members to your ship allows them to operate cannons automatically. Without crew, you must manually man each cannon bank. When playing solo, NPC crew will fire at enemy ships while you engage in character combat on deck.

[SPAWNING]
Ships do not exist permanently in the world - they are summoned from the 'Ship in a Bottle' item. When you want to set sail, take out your bottle and position your cursor where you want the ship to spawn. Click, and a whirlpool forms at that location. Seconds later, your fully-customised ship rises from the sea.
[ANCHOR]
When docked at an island, you should always anchor your ship. An anchored ship is locked in place and cannot be stolen, despawned, or moved by other players. An unanchored ship can be stolen - and if another player takes your ship, you cannot despawn it remotely.
[CREW]
Ships can carry NPC crew members who serve functional roles - manning cannons, acting as co-captains, and adding to your ship's presence in the world. Your crew is visible on your ship, standing at their posts, which makes your vessel feel lived-in.
[COMBAT ON SHIPS]
Combat on moving ships is one of RELL Seas' technical achievements. While sailing at full speed, players can jump, dash, use abilities, and engage in full melee combat - all while the ship moves beneath them. The custom physics system attaches character movement to the ship's momentum, so your jumps and dashes feel natural even at high speed.
[SHIP EDITOR]
Visual customization is done inside the Ship Builder - a dedicated editing room that players enter from their ship. Inside the editor, the ship exists as a tiny model inside a bottle, allowing full 360-degree inspection of customization changes.
[CREW IDENTITY]
Every crew gets a unique name that no other crew in the entire game can ever claim. Once a name is taken, it is locked permanently. Every crew can design a completely custom Jolly Roger (flag) that is displayed on their ship's sails. When approaching another ship, they see your flag before they see your crew.
[COLOR PALETTE]
Ships use a curated color palette rather than a full color wheel. The developers chose this approach to prevent garish or absurd color combinations - the palette is designed to produce ships that look genuinely good regardless of the choices made.
[FURNITURE & LIVING]
Ships have interiors across multiple floors. The furniture placement system allows players to set up cooking stations, seating, and decor inside their vessel. A cooking pot or ship stove placed on the deck enables on-board cooking - critical for players who want to run a ship-based restaurant (a fully valid playstyle in RELL Seas).

Hull materials

The default hull material. Provides a classic sailing ship appearance. All ships start as wooden.

Upgrades the hull to iron plating, converting the ship into a steam-powered aesthetic. Iron plating significantly increases Armour and opens up the Steam Engine attachment. Requires Iron materials gathered through the Mining talent.

Hull material is changed from within the Ship Customisation menu. The visual change is dramatic - an iron-hulled ship looks and feels entirely different from its wooden counterpart. Material choice affects the coloring options available, as iron and wood respond differently to the color palette.

Confirmed notes

  • Ship customisation was shown extensively in Movie 1. The ship combat system was confirmed as one of the most technically complex features in RELL Seas.
  • Battle Mode is activated with R - gives access to Mortar Cannons, Chain Shot, and RAM.
  • Chain Shot slows/immobilizes enemy ships - confirmed battle mode ability.
  • Players can load themselves into a cannon and launch onto enemy ships to initiate deck combat.
  • Up to 3 ship layouts can be saved and switched between freely.
  • The Ship Builder editing room places the ship inside a tiny bottle for full 360 customization.
  • Crew names are permanent and server-unique - claimed on day one of launch.
  • The Steam Engine crafting requires Iron - making Iron one of the most important materials for ship-building players.
  • Figurehead blueprints from boss kills (e.g. Allard Wings, Sea Serpent Wing Craft) also improve ship stats, not just appearance.
  • Marine warships are significantly larger than the Gallion - players who fight Marine warship events are going up against ships built to a different scale.
  • The developers explicitly stated that Devil Fruits will never be the primary mode of sea travel or sea combat - ships are permanently the dominant force at sea.
